Making a commercial fare with an extremely popular superstar is the safest option as it promises you decent returns on the investment. In such cases story which is suppose to be the heart and soul of the film takes a backseat. Here the main lead of the film gets the audience to the cinema halls and he makes sure that he entertains them. Duvvada Jagannadham is no different, Allu Arjun successfully carries off the entire film all by himself. Undoubtedly he is the star of the film in every sense. There are cases where the star power of the film does not suffice in making it a good film and Duvvada Jagannadham is a proper victim of this case.
Duvvada Jagannadham has a very weak story. It starts from the childhood of the protagonist, first half revolves around the love story of the lead pair and by the end the hero successfully kills the antagonist. Along with these are the ordinary turns in the story like the actress misunderstands the actor moment she sees him with some other girl. The actress realizes her love for the lead actor once she meets another guy who is related to the antagonist. Family member of the lead being harassed by the antagonist which leads to increased anger of the lead actor. Basically the story of the film lacks novelty, is least interesting and the sad part about it is that it becomes boring for the fact that it is been seen in almost every other mass commercial film.
Direction of Harish Shankar is strictly mediocre. He struggles to do things differently in this outdated story. Editing required lot more work. You simply loose interest at many places in the film. It becomes boring at times and is almost predictable. Half an hour post interval you wait for the film to end. Background score is limited to action scenes only. Even the emotional scenes lack that musical touch to them. Compositions are just fair. Pooja Hegde fails to impress. She does not have a meaty part to impress either but she is easily avoidable.
Coming to the limited good things about the film. Allu Arjun is Duvvada Jagannadham and Duvvada Jagannadham is Allu Arjun. He is simply outstanding in the film. His performance is undoubtedly the best part of the film. His transition from innocence to anger in so many scenes is just phenomenal. His act is one of the best thing in the film. His fans are in for a royal treat with this one. Action in the film is another highlight of the film. It is very well designed, shot and you enjoy every bit of it. It is clever at times and just good otherwise. Action in the climax is quite surprising. The next good thing in the film may not appeal to everyone and that is song picturization. The compositions may not be great but its choreography, set designing and every other thing add some breeze to the lame narrative. You cannot stop but whistle and clap every time Allu Arjun shakes a leg on screen.
Overall Duvvada Jagannadham can be easily skipped. Allu Arjun fans can’t stop themselves so it makes one time watch for them just for his charismatic screen presence. Action is good and so are song visuals but they can be enjoyed on small screen as well. Duvvada Jagannadham is not recommended.
