This story of Jomonte is happy for sure but not the happiest of the lot. The excitement to watch this film is no less but the opening credits of the film itself seem way too long, background score makes up for it though.
Jomonte Suviseshangal is a beautiful story of father and son but Iqbal Kuttipuran’s simple writing does not help much in making the film highly interesting. Initial major portion of the film is just happy go lucky track of Jomonte’s life. The only saviour here is the adorable chemistry between Dulquer and Mukesh. Dulquer’s bike and bus stint in the film are fun-filled. It is little before the interval that the film takes a turn but then that is slightly problematic. This particular twist reminds you of Jacobinte Swargarajyam and by interval you are in doubt if the movie is same. It is on the lines of Jacobinte Swargarajyam but not exactly the same. Iqbal has managed to bring some novelty in the story but it is not enough. Little more spark in writing would have worked well for the film. There is enough humour in the film and most importantly it is rightly placed, it keeps you interested to an extent. Romance in the film is limited. Dulquer and Anupama’s romantic track is broken and limited. In first half it is cliched but cuteness overload and in second half it takes an ordinary turn which is not new in Malayalam films. Dulquer and Aishwarya’s track in the film may not be romantic as such but it is like a breeze in the second half, very innocent. Above all this, Jomonte Suviseshangal is emotionally satisfying. The portrayal of father-son relationship is pure as gold. Every father would want a son like Jomonte and every son would want a father like Vincent.
Dulquer Salmaan is everything in Jomonte Suviseshangal. He is the reason to watch the film. His performance is top notch in this one and helps big time in saving the film. He is fun-loving in first half and his transformation as a mature guy in second half is phenomenal. Dulquer is the only one who gives you your money’s worth. Mukesh as Vincent supports well. He does not comes out as a strong performer or character but his presence is crucial in the film and he justifies it well with his performance. Anupama Parmeswaran has very limited role which comes as a surprise. She is decent in her act. Aishwarya Rajessh’s simplicity is very impressive. Remaining supporting cast fits the bill.
Sathyan Anthikad has takes the regular way in executing the film. The interest level of the film is highly unstable. Pace of the film keeps on dropping and that is something which affects the film big time. Editing of the film could have been much better. Neelaaksham song is eye-pleasing in parts but very unnecessary. Second half of the film travels a bit in the extreme interiors of our nation. This is where cinematography is stunning. Rest of the film is mostly interiors. Music in the film is very limited and that work in the favour of the film. Background score of the film is melody at it’s best.
Overall Jomonte Suviseshangal is Dulquer Salmaan’s show. Rest everything seems to be done halfheartedly. Watch this one just for Dulquer.
