Katyar Kaljat Ghusli is based on a play with same name. Hats Off to Subodh Bhave for bringing this play on screen. He has beautifully managed to use the cinematic liberty along with retaining the essence of the play. Firstly because it’s a film the director could easily shoot it at various locations. Film has beautiful sets and some portions are shot at real locations making the film look authentic. Subodh has maintained the essence of the play by getting out the best from his actors. Film has so many scenes that give you goosebumps. Every single shot of the film creates a powerful impact. Since the film is a musical fare, the music is exceptional.

Katyar Kaljat Ghusli has a simple but a very strong story. Story about music, musicians and more importantly humanity. Shankar Mahadevan’s performance is fairly good. Being a non actor he has performed quite well. Sachin Pilgaonkar has lived the character. His portrayal of Khan Saab makes you hate him because of his actions in the film. Brilliant performance. Subodh Bhave has worked really hard as an actor for this film. His hard work has payed off as a beautiful performance. Amruta Khanvilkar and Mrunmayee Deshpande make their presence felt in this male dominated film by their strong act. Sakshi Tanwar in a special appearance is simply good. The remaining supporting cast fits the bill. Subodh Bhave should seriously consider direction as well if he is going to give us these kind of films. Great story selection and above all great execution.

Music of the film deserves a special mention. Too many songs in the film but they are the heart, brain and everything else of the film. With Katyar Kaljat Ghusli you experience an Indian classical musical journey. You are lost in this melodious musical world which you don’t want to leave. Even though the film has great music, the background score of the film is outstanding.

So Katyar Kaljat Ghusli is all about soothing music and powerful performances. Every other aspect of the film takes a backseat. This one is strongly recommended. Katyar Kaljat Ghusli is an experience in itself. Don’t miss this one.
