Rajkumar Hirani made 3 Idiots and raised the expectations of the entire world for his next film. PK unfortunately does not completely live up to the expectations. More than film the message Rajkumar Hirani wants to tell his audience is novel and something we could never think of seeing on silver screen. Initial 40 minutes of the film is timepass and just setting the mood of audience which is not expected or required from someone like Rajkumar Hirani. Once PK (Aamir Khan) starts his flashback you enter the world of Rajkumar Hirani. He gives you enough chances to clap, whistle and do nothing but praise every single shot. One needs enough courage to question something like religion. Rajkumar Hirani has done it in the film in a comical way. The film may not make you laugh like Munnabhai MBBS did but will definitely make you think 3 Idiots did, until you change your thoughts on religion. Full marks to Rajkumar Hirani for the concept, execution of the same could have been better. Somewhere that one scene is lacking in PK which is immortal kike Rajkumar Hirani had in his previous films; Jimmy Shergill amd his father’s confrontation in Lagey Raho Munnabhai or Madhavan and his father’s confrontation scene and Sharman’s post suicide montage plus song in 3 Idiots. The film lacked that one emotional scene which touches yohr heart.
Aamir Khan is the star of the film. His performance is exceptional and he plays the character flawlessly making you believe in whatever he says or does. Once again Rajkumar Hirani makes PK win your heart like Munnabhai did with his Jadoo Ki Jhappi or Gandhigiri. Anushka Sharma fits the bill and is superb as Jaggu. You do see the Anushka of her previous films but that Anushka fits perfectly in PK’s life. The remaining cast; Sanjay Dutt, Sushant Singh Rajput, Boman Irani and Saurabh Shukla come in the film play their part and vanish. They are an important part of the film but not prominent enough to make their presence felt throughout he film. PK is all about Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma. Rajkumar Hirani’s direction is very good like his previous films. His extensive research is clearly visible on screen that makes his direction exceptional. Music of the film is very debatable. Good album but not a proper fit in the film. Songs are helpful to take the story forward but not melodious enough and end up becoming a loo break. Chaar Kadam stands out because of the magical voice of Shaan. Bhagwaan Hai Kahaan Re Tu is impressive because of its hard hitting visuals. Rest all are unimpressive. Background score of the film is outstanding and good enough to make you enjoy the scene much more. Editing is superb and keeps you glued to your seats. Some songs seem unnecessary and plot gets sidetracked but Rajkumar Hirani makes sure you are back into the film post that songs.
Munnabhai MBBS gave us Jadoo Ki Jhappi. Lagey Raho Munnabhai taught us Gandhigiri. PK like 3 Idiots gives a very strong message that will definitely bring some change in you. The message is enough to make you spend some extra bucks and watch this film. PK is highly recommended for Rajkumar Hirani’s genuine effort to give out a strong message.
