Daawat-e-Ishq is a perfect example, rather a case study of wrong film marketing. Except last few print posters of the film no-one could make it that film deals with dowry issues. Habib Faisal has made an honest attempt to showcase a reality of the society in an entertaining manner in which he partially succeeds. Initially the film is bit confusing as the director himself is not sure towards where the story is heading. Film that talks about ishq lacks a good chemistry between the main protagonists. Dawaat-e-Ishq is a con film presented differently portraying a harsh side of the society.
Pluses: Very few. Decent music by Sajid-Wajid. Some very good scenes which is the only good part in the film. Up to some extent performance of Parineeti Chopra, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Anupam Kher. Habib Faisal’s genuine effort to entertainingly portray reality on silver screen.
Minuses: Loose screenplay of the film which fails to engage you throughout the film. Lack of suspense and incomplete sequences. Initially the film looks like the director had time constraints regarding the length of the film. Film lacks novelty and innovation. Yash Raj has made few films earlier within the same genre.
Overall Daawat-e-Ishq is good in bits and parts. The film is above average and can be watched once only if you cannot live without watching it.
