Some films are lucky enough that they release on perfect time and win audiences hearts. Bhoothnath Returns is one such film. The films starts where it’s prequel Bhoothnath concluded. Kailashnath/Bhoothnath (Amitabh Bachchan) in on his way to bhooth world, a fantasy place where all ghosts live. Here Bhoothnath is embarrassed because his fellow ghosts are laughing at him as he could not even scare a kid on earth. Bhoothnath is waiting for his turn to reborn as a human bring but he realizes it will take lots of time and Bhoothnath is impatient. He decides to visit earth and scare some kids so that he gets back his deserved respect in the bhooth world. He feels bad for the people of the country who are in such sad state and decides to change the country by standing for upcoming elections. The film has a good message and is very straight forward as well in delivering the message but the weak execution of Nitesh Tiwari of the simple concept fails to create the magic. The film is very slow paced and many repetitive events throughout the film bore you. First half is nothing but Bhoothnath helping others, giving their rights etc and second half is his struggle to win the elections. The film is too long and many portions could have been easily edited. The film gives the same message “even if you don’t vote for me do vote”. Election news doing rounds of every newspaper will ensure enough footfalls for Bhoothnath Returns but the film fails in innovation. Nothing exceptional in the film as far as the premise of the film is concerned. Amitabh Bachchan’s performance is good but nothing new than the prequel. Parth Bhalerao suited the character and was good as Amitabh Bachchan. Boman Irani shines in this negative character. Music of the film was below average. Special effects in the film are decent.
Overall Bhoothnath Returns is a decent effort with nothing novel in it. The elections heat can make the film little entertaining by changing the mindset and provoking the non voters to vote. In short is old wine in old bottle, the film is somewhat on the lines of Sunday morning kids TV serial on DD. An Average fare.
