29th January 2010 saw an amazing film called Ishqiya. The film just amazed everybody by the performances, soothing music and genius direction of a gem called Abhishek Chaubey. Four years later second installment of the film Dedh Ishqiya comes and it surprises you even more. The film is just flawless. The film may not be fast paced or have too many ups and downs in it, but the flat pace and the beautiful direction of the film just blows off your minds. Initially you are just enjoying what is happening on the screen but unknowingly you become very engrossed in the film. Abhishek Chaubey completely justifies the reason for taking four years to make Dedh Ishqiya. Everything has been worked upon so minutely that it does not give you a chance to question about anything, be it taking the story forward or the whole look and feel of the film, why nawab’s, why Madhuri and not Vidya. The film is a visual treat and it may give a very good competition to Yash Chopra, Karan Johar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali films in terms of set designing. Very rustic yet beautiful and mesmerizing look of the film. Each and every scene is established properly be it in terms of justification of that incident, like the reason of Arshad Warsi knowing about Naseeruddin Shah in brothel, look of the scene like the introduction scene of Madhuri Dixit-Nene.
Direction deserves to be appreciated before the performances. It’s Abhishek Chaubey’s intelligent direction and the Screenplay written with Vishal Bhardwaj that makes Dedh Ishqiya such an amazing film. The films is hilarious at times and sometimes even make you raise your eyebrows. Performances of everybody is just outstanding. Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi are same like they were in the prequel but they have done a brilliant job. Madhuri Dixit-Nene is simply amazing and yes she still has that charm to make you fall love with her all over again. She still has those Nisha qualities which will make you say wow. Huma Qureshi is just doing the right films no matter whether it’s lead role or a supporting one. She just proves it with her performance with her every passing film. Vijay Raaz is one surprise element in the film. Not lengthy but powerful role which just makes sure that his performance is praised by the end of the film. Vishal Bhardwaj music is one more high point of the film. Beautifully incorporated song not entire songs though but they make the movie look beautiful.
Stunning direction, outstanding performances, melodious music, visually treating cinematography makes Dedh Ishqiya a must watch. The poems which just take you in a different world and amazing humor makes Dedh Ishqiya one of those films which should not be missed. Double thumbs up to this one. Watch this one for a brilliantly presented piece of pure classy entertainment.
*This one is a classy entertainment may not appeal to all. Good but not everybody’s cup of tea. If you enjoy those full on commercial masala films you may not enjoy this one.
