Sanjay Leela Bhansali (SLB) back with a bang, and this time he has beautifully managed to retain his style of making cinema which will be loved by current generation. SLB mainly known for lavish sets, amazing cinematography and outstanding performances, has all these elements in his recent flick Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ramleela (GKRR) but smartly modified according to the changing times.
Story: Nothing, but a modern classical approach to famous Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. SLB has very well executed this beautiful love story in his very own famous style.
Performances: SLB has a track record of his actors giving the best performances of their career in his movies. Deepika Padukone is becoming better actor with her every new movie. In this film some of her scenes gives you goosebumps and makes you applaud for this talented actress for this amazing performance. She is surely gonna take the Best Actress Trophy at all possible award functions this year. Ranveer Singh is in full form. It is clearly visible that this role was written for him and no one else. One more good thing about SLB is that, all other characters from his film manage to create an impact irrespective of their screen time. Richa Chadda, Supriya Pathak, Abhimanyu Singh, Gulshan Devaiyah, Barkha Bisht all of them have done a fantastic job, especially Supriya Pathak and Richa Chadda because of their character sketch. Overall awesome performance by the outstanding ensemble cast.
Others: SLB again impresses with his direction, but here you find a sequence which reminds you of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and unfortunately in second half at quite a few places you might remember Habib Faisal’s Ishaqzaade. Little lack of originality in some sequences but on the whole the direction is awesome. SLB has a painting to offer in every single shot. Art Direction of the film is outstanding. SLB has maintained his standard of his set and while watching the film you are altogether is different world. Beautiful cinematography take each single scene to a different level and keeps you glued to the screen throughout the film. Perfect editing, not a single extra scene and too many songs but they just make the film even more better. Not a single forcefully added song. Brilliant music by SLB by sadly two best tracks from the album Dhoop and Poore Chand are missing. No editing of songs as well, almost all songs are full length. Monty Sharma’s background score makes your movie watching experience even more better. Dialogues of the film are amazing, bold and beautiful. SLB surprises you with such dialogues in his films.
Amazing performances, beautiful direction, melodious music, pitch perfect editing, breath taking cinematography, bold and beautiful dialogues and outstanding background score make GKRR must watch. If you hate romantic movies kindly stay away from this one. The film lived up to my expectations, but did not surpass it, so my verdict is…..
