It’s a matter of great honour and pleasure when a film doing very well at the festivals is bought by a well known production and distribution house. Shahid is one such example and it deserved to be treated like the way it is being treated. Biopic have found audience in bollywood, provided it is very well executed and post Bhaag Milkha Bhaag a well presented biopic will find it’s audience and that may not be a niche.
Shahid is a story of a lawyer Shahid Azmi (Rajkumar Yadav) who once upon a time was a terrorist. The film is set from 1992-93 till his assassination in 2010. Very well told story with flat pace but the brilliant direction of Hansal Mehta makes you forget the pace and concentrate on what’s happening in the film. The film keeps you engaged throughout. Very little music (only one song) and a good romantic angle to the story makes the film even more enjoyable. Tigmanshu Dhulia’s small appearance and Zeeshan Ayub’s supporting role is noteworthy. Crisp editing of the film makes the movie even better.
On the whole Shahid will appeal to all the cinema lovers and also to those who rarely watch films, all credit goes to Hansal Mehta. Brilliant performance of Rajkumar Yadav and outstanding direction of Hansal Mehta makes Shahid a must watch film.
