Kai Po Che a Guajrati lingo used to express victory in kite flying. This film based on a famous novel 3 Mistakes Of My Life by Chetan Bhagat is beautifully converted into a film. Abhishek Kapoor back after Rock On does not disappoint his fans he had after Rock On but he somehow misses to reach the level of his last film but yet the film is worth a watch. Once again a well crafted Bromance.

Story of three friends Ishaan (Sushant Songh Rajput), Omkar/Omi (Amit Sadh) and Govind (Raj Kumar Yadav). These three friends are living the best of their life doing nothing. As usual their parents do taunt them and make them realise that it’s high time now they should start doing something life. Govind has a good plan of starting a business and he also gets funded by Ishaan’s father but due to Ishaan’s bad behaviour that opportunity is lost. Omi’s maternal uncle Bittu Mama (Manav Kaul) hepls these guys open their Sports Shop along with a cricket field. Here Ishaan teaches cicket to young kids and Omi and Govind handle the shop. here Ishaan finds a kid Ali who is very talented and has lots of potential which Ishaan decides to show the world by making him play some very important matches which will give a required boost to the kid’s career. Unfortunately this kid is a son of a man who supports the opposing political party of Omi’s uncle. Omi is always advised to join his uncle’s political party which eventually he does due to some circumstances. Vidya (Amrita Puri) is Ishaan’s sister and a Maths student of Govind. All of them are living a happy life in Gujarat untill January 2001 where one earthquake shatters all of them and their lives take a complete different turn for sometime. All three Ishaan, Omi and Govind think of themselves. Ishaan is only concerned about Ali where as Govind is always worried about future and Omi joins his Uncle’s political party. How the life of all these three characters go through varoius good and bad moments and how the strong friendship between three f them is retained is what all the film about.

Raj Kumar as Govind is very good. In this film he has tried to be different from what he was in his earlier films. He is very good and does complete justice to his role be it being emotional or shy or a scary guy he has done everythong perfectly. Amit Sadh as Omi has different shades to his characters and he has portrayed it very beautifully. Initially when he his always there for his friend till joining the Political party and taking revenge of his parents death he was just outstanding. The newcomer Sushant Singh Rajput was good but compared to other two his role didn’t had many shades. All the film he was the same guy concerned about Ali and loved cricket. Amrita Puri has a short role but she was very good and creates a good impact on you. She is good as sister, daughter, girl friend and also a simple girl who hates Maths. The entire cast has done a very good job. The supporting cast of the film was equally good. Overall the performances of the film were worth appraising.

Abhishek Kapoor on back on the directors seat after his highly successful last film Rock On. This time also he has managed to maintain his style and tell the story with proper narration but some places in the film many arts were half way. Many scenes just happened just because it was in the novel but no proper justice was given to some portions in the film. Story and Screenplay is based on the novel by Chetan Bhagat ad also helped him were Abhishek Kapoor, Supartik Sen, Pubali Chaudhari, so as far as book is concerned it’s superb but when it comes to film it lacks a bit. Editing by Deepa Bhatia is the biggest drawback of the film. The film is very fats paced. When the song somes the steory of the films just moves ahead in a rocket speed. Dialogues are ordinary and are good. Cinematography by Anay Goswami is just fantastic. Some portions of the film are shot exceptionally well. Cinematography was very good.

Music of the film is by Amit Trivedi. He has done some very good work in his earlier films and this one also has quite good music. All the songs in the film Manja, Meethi Boliyan and Shibharambh are played in the background, Not a single lip sync song. There is a garba sequence in the film where song could have been very good but that portion just has a noral garba song. Lyrics of Swanand Kirkire are very good and the music gives proper justice to the owrds of the lyricist. Overall the music of the film is good to hear and will be a good part of your collection.

Kai Po Che is a good film made by a good director but many questions are not answered like why the film was so short, people who read the book wil have a question as in why weren’t some of the sequences shown properly as explained in the book. Inspite of the film leaving you with such questions the film is worth a watch. The film deserves one watch by all the cinema lovers as well as the normal audience who watches movie just for entertainment. Good one and Recommended.

My Verdict: 3.5/5
