JAB TAK HAI JAAN

Yash Chopra is said to be King of Romance, he surely is but this time he failed to create an impact he created in his earlier films. The legend gave us outstanding romantic films like Veer-Zaara, Dil To Pagal Hai, Darr, Chandni, Silsila, Kabhi Kabhie. This does not match to any of his earlier work. The movie is made in 90,s style which unfortunately will never connect with the current generation. If the movie was made 15 year’s back then it would have been a Blockbuster. It’s a 3 hours long movie wherein first half has maximum number of songs. The second half has the old twist and turns. The locations are good but it won’t save the film.

The film starts by showing Shahrukh Khan defusing a bomb followed by a nice romantic poem with opening credits rolling. First half shows Akira(Anushka Sharma) reading love story of Samar(Shahrukh Khan) and Meera (Katrina Kaif). It is an ordinary love story seen hundred times in Hindi cinema. Nothing great in that. As usual both of them part their ways in Interval. Post interval Akira falls in love with Samar. In an accident Samar loses his memory and forgets Akira and remembers only Meera. Akira tries to get both of them together. To find out with whom does Samar lives happily everafter watch Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

Shahrukh Khan looks good in the film. The director is confused as what exactly is Samar a Major or a struggling boy next door in London. He acted pretty well nothing unique in his acting this time. Overall SRK is average in the film. Katrina Kaif has again proved that she can’t act. She has good amount of screen space in the film but apart from her introduction scene she is expressionless throughout the film. Her dialogue delivery is bad as usual. Anushka Sharma comes a power performer in the film but sadly she don’t get enough time to show her acting skills. She has very small role compared to other two actors. Other actors Anupam Kher, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor played their part well.

Music of the film is the only saving grace of the film. A.R.Rahman has given brilliant songs to this film. Gulzar has written some very good lyrics. Challa and Heer has a nice amount of Punjabi flavour to ther words and they are good to hear. Saans is a good romantic number sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Mohit Chauhan both of them prove that they are best at romantic songs. Ishq Shava is a good dance number sung by Shilpa Rao and Raghav Mathur. Chali Re sung by Shilpa Rao is as refreshing as Akira’a character in the film. The only song in second half and one of the best song from the album. Overall the music of the film is very good and i give it a thums up.

In the last film as a director Yash Chopra disappoints us. No doubt he made the film in his style but his style doesn’t work unfortunately. He tried his level best by shooting in new locations but could not succeed. Cinematographer captured some good shots in some very good location of London and Ladakh and some parts of extreme parts of North India. Screenplay is bad as far as the main protagonist Samar is concerned. Even in love story the makers tried to do something new but failed badly.

Overall Jab Tak Hai Jaan is a disappointment. The movie bores you in bits and parts. The biggest drawback of the film is it’s length. The pace of the film drops every 25-30 minutes. Watch this one at your own will.

My Verdict 2.5/5
